About Moonshot Goal 7

The Moonshot Research and Development Program is a national initiative formulated and coordinated by the Cabinet Office of Japan. Through bold and ambitious R&D that goes beyond incremental extensions of existing approaches, the program aims to generate disruptive innovations originating in Japan. Since its launch in 2020, ten goals have been established. One of these, Goal 7, is promoted by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) and sets forth the vision of “establishing a sustainable medical and long-term care system in which major diseases are prevented and overcome, and people can enjoy life without health-related anxiety up to the age of 100 by 2040.”
Following the “Dementia and Brain Disease R&D Initiative” proposed by the Japanese government in August 2023, new research efforts aimed at conquering dementia have been accelerated within the framework of Moonshot Goal 7. From November 2024, three new projects, including the “Brain Senoinflammation” project, have been launched in full scale.
